You&#8217;ve been able to enjoy your favorite foods more easily, and your smile looks great! However, these restorations can&#8217;t last indefinitely. Although they have an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years, you might wonder if it&#8217;s time to get it replaced. Keep reading to learn three signs that you may need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.) &nbsp;It\u2019s Uncomfortable to Bite and Chew<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you first got your crown, it likely felt just like natural. Your bite was comfortable, and you were able to dig into your meals with ease. However, if it\u2019s starting to cause a bit more discomfort, then something may have happened to your crown. In some cases, it can be adjusted, but other times call for a replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A restoration that doesn\u2019t sit right or has any sort of damage can risk the supporting tooth underneath. Bacteria can more easily reach it and cause a cavity or infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.) &nbsp;Your Gums Are Inflamed and Irritated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gums that are tender or swollen can be an indication that you need to replace your crown. Any chip or crack can irritate the soft tissues of your mouth, possibly even making them recede. However, there is also a chance these are signs of gum disease. It can happen due to poor oral health, but this condition needs to be treated right away! When left to its own devices, it can lead to tooth loss, so scheduling a visit to your dentist is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.) &nbsp;You See General Wear and Tear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Crowns take the daily pressure from eating like a champ. But they will start to wear down over time. If you notice that it&#8217;s not looking its best with small dents or stains, then replacing it can help you get back to a strong smile. Even if it doesn&#8217;t look as aesthetic as it once did, it can be reason enough to get a new one. While you may be tempted to just deal with a worn-out restoration, it can cause trouble later by cracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One valuable asset to help you determine if you need a new crown is your dentist! Through semi-annual checkups, they can monitor the condition of it and see how long it has left. Not only that, but they can keep it clean and strong for years to come.
