You likely already know that brushing and flossing twice daily helps remove plaque and bacteria that contribute to common concerns, like cavities and gum disease. But unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that you’ll never develop a problem.
Dr. Dann and our team can help protect your smile and prevent dental issues with routine dental checkups and cleanings. Continue reading to learn more about these services so you know what to expect from your next appointment, and please contact us if you have further questions.

Maintaining a consistent at-home oral hygiene regimen can be a simple and effective way to help clean your mouth between dental appointments, but you might miss early signs of issues developing in places that are hard to see or reach by yourself, such as between teeth, below your gums, or behind your molars.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dann has the experience and state-of-the-art technology to quickly identify areas of concern and treat them before they progress, helping avoid more complex and costly repairs often needed to address more significant problems.

First, our team will need to update your medical history to include any more recent procedures or diagnoses you may have received, and list any current prescription medications and supplements you take regularly, so we don’t do anything that might cause complications. Then, once you’re seated comfortably, our team will visually examine your teeth, gums, bite alignment, and any existing dental work, such as fillings or crowns, to ensure everything is in good shape.
We also screen the soft tissues of your mouth for signs of oral cancer and will take X-rays at least once annually so we can address any issues that might develop below the surface of your teeth and gums. If we find potential problems, we’ll develop a customized treatment plan for your approval before proceeding.

After your examination, our hygienist will use specialized dental instruments to carefully remove plaque, tartar, and bacterial buildup to help prevent tooth decay, periodontal disease, and chronic bad breath.
We’ll also floss carefully between your teeth to remove residue, like bits of leftover food, germs, or plaque, from your enamel and beneath your gumline. Finally, we’ll polish your enamel to remove more recent surface stains before wrapping up your appointment.
